The International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code) is a management systems model. For ships of 500 GRT and upwards engaged on international voyages, ISM certification is mandatory, and companies must have a Safety Management System (SMS) and a Document of Compliance (DOC) attesting SMS effectiveness.
